The wait is over. The New Kia Sorento Hybrid 7 Seater has been spotted testing in India for the very first time.

For years, Indian buyers have asked: “Why doesn’t Kia bring its big global SUV here?” Now, the spy shots confirm it is happening. Kia is readying this premium SUV for a 2026 Launch, and it is aiming straight at the Toyota Fortuner and Skoda Kodiaq.

But this isn’t just another diesel SUV. The spy shots reveal a secret that changes everything. Here is our simple expert analysis.

THE SECRET INSIDE: THE “ROTARY DIAL” CLUE

The test car was heavily covered, but one leaked interior image gave away the biggest secret. The car had a Rotary Dial Gear Selector (a round knob to change gears).

Why does this matter? Globally, the petrol/diesel Seltos uses a traditional gear lever. The Rotary Dial is exclusive to the Hybrid and Electric versions. This confirms that Kia is bringing the Strong Hybrid version to India.

ENGINE BATTLE: 1.6L TURBO HYBRID VS. 2.8L DIESEL

This is where the Seltos fights the Fortuner.

  • Toyota Fortuner: Uses a massive 2.8L Diesel engine. It’s powerful but loud and thirsty.
  • Kia Sorento: Uses a high-tech 1.6L Turbo Petrol + Electric Motor.

Expected Specs:

  • Power: ~230 BHP (Combined)
  • Torque: ~350 Nm

Expert Verdict: The Sorento Hybrid will be smoother, quieter, and far more fuel-efficient than the Fortuner. It offers the power of a big diesel without the noise or pollution.

INTERIOR: A “PROPER” LUXURY CABIN

While the Fortuner feels rugged and utilitarian inside, the Seltos is a luxury lounge. The spy shots hint at a Panoramic Curved Display (Dual 12.3-inch screens), similar to the Kia EV6.

It is also expected to come loaded with features the Toyota lacks:

  • Level 2 ADAS (Advanced safety tech).
  • 19-inch Alloy Wheels (confirmed by the tyre size on the test mule: 235/55 R19).
  • Multi-Zone Climate Control and a huge Panoramic Sunroof.

OUR EXPERT VERDICT

The New Kia Sorento Hybrid 7 Seater is exactly what the Indian market needs.

Right now, if you want a 7-seater SUV for ₹40-50 Lakh, you are forced to buy a diesel Fortuner or a petrol-guzzling Kodiaq. There is no hybrid option.

Kia is smart. By launching a Hybrid, they are offering the “best of both worlds”: the luxury of a German car and the mileage of a Maruti. If they price it right (around ₹40-45 Lakh), the Fortuner finally has a serious problem.

Launch Timeline: Early to Mid 2026.
