Honda has a history of building manual hybrids (like the CR-Z and first-generation Insight), but the automaker explains that the fundamental nature of modern hybrids—where electric power plays a much larger and more integrated role—makes fitting them with a manual transmission technically unfeasible for mainstream models. To compensate for the loss of driver engagement, Honda is introducing an enhanced e-CVT and a new performance feature called S+ Shift.

The Technical Reason: Electricity Dominates
