Why GM SUV Sales Middle East Are Booming: Full-Size SUVs Take Over

GM SUV sales Middle East are enjoying remarkable success, led by its full-size SUVs. It’s the only market other than the US where GM offers its full lineup of full-size SUVs (Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban, GMC Yukon, and Cadillac Escalade), and sales have jumped 28 percent in the third quarter of 2025, compared to the same period in 2024. Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait emerged as the top markets for this growth.

The momentum for GM SUV sales Middle East was even stronger earlier in the year. During the first quarter of 2025, GM Middle East reported a 26 percent overall sales increase, with full-size SUV sales surging by a remarkable 55 percent year-over-year.

Why Middle Eastern Buyers Love American SUVs

Several factors explain the strong appetite for GM’s full-size SUVs in the region.

  • Market Alignment: The vehicles offer a combination of power, space, and premium technology that aligns perfectly with customer preferences across the Middle East.
  • New Demographics: Customers aged 20 to 29 are emerging as a defining audience for models like the Tahoe and Escalade.
  • Growing Customer Base: There has been a notable increase in Asian expatriates and female ownership, broadening the traditional customer base.
  • Brand Loyalty: GM’s 99-year track record in the Middle East has built substantial brand loyalty, with the company reporting a 33 percent rise in repeat aftersales customers over the last five years.

American Cars Find New Takers Away From Home

GM’s success extends beyond SUVs. The Chevrolet Corvette posted its best month of sales in the Middle East since 2015 in August 2025. The mid-engine C8 Corvette has fundamentally changed how international buyers perceive American performance cars, transforming the Corvette from muscle car to legitimate supercar alternative.

American manufacturers are finding the Middle East to be fertile ground for growth as traditional markets face challenges. Ford, for example, doubled its sales in the region between 2022 and 2024, becoming the fastest-growing automotive brand in Saudi Arabia.

Why It Matters

The GM SUV sales Middle East success story is significant. As traditional markets face challenges, the Middle East’s strong economy, preference for large, capable vehicles, and changing demographics create vital opportunities for US automakers like GM and Ford to beat expectations.
