Acura NSX Driven to Arctic Circle & Back
Some Lunatic Drove His Acura NSX from the southernmost point of the continental U.S., Key West, all the way to the Arctic Circle and back. This incredible feat of automotive endurance and pure passion highlights just how deep the connection between a car enthusiast and their machine can run. Ignoring the practicalities of long-distance driving in a performance car, John Lange embarked on an epic 13,000+ mile journey, all because he “just really likes his NSX.”

The Arctic By Way Of, Well, Everywhere Else First
John Lange, a self-proclaimed victim of “scope creep,” initially didn’t plan such an extensive trip. His devotion to the Acura NSX is evident—he’s owned 14 of them over the years. The journey began to expand in his mind: from a trip to Seattle for an owner’s meetup (NSXPO), to driving into Canada, then to Alaska, and eventually to the Arctic Circle. The “scope creep” continued until he realized the only “real way to do it” was to start from the absolute bottom of the map.
“I started thinking, okay, so I’m gonna be in Seattle… So I should probably drive into Canada. And then I started thinking, well, if I’m going to drive into Canada, I should probably consider driving to Alaska and to the Arctic Circle. And then I considered, I’m four hours from the coast of South Carolina, so I could just pop down the Atlantic and start on the Atlantic. And then the scope creep continued, and I realized the only real way to do it would be to drive down to Key West to ‘start my trip.’”
Since setting off on August 5th, Lange has already logged over 13,000 miles on his white NSX. After hitting Key West, he turned north, pausing briefly in Asheville for maintenance and a few days in Banff for some well-deserved hiking.
The Alaskan John Lange Fan Club
As Lange made his final push towards the Arctic Circle in Alaska, he inadvertently amassed a local following. He recounts how a dusty road caused some temporary clutch issues, packing up the car’s transmission bell housing. It was during this time that locals started to take notice of the striking white NSX.
“A guy pulls in in a CRV and starts chatting me up, he runs some local car Facebook group in Alaska, and took a couple of pictures of my car,” Lange told The Autopian. “And it just spread like wildfire around Alaska. I was getting friends that used to live there hit me up, saying they saw my post, and then somebody else chimed in and had a video of that they had taken of me driving on the Alcan [Highway] that they put up in that thread.”
Lange, who often camped wherever he could along the journey, became a minor celebrity among Alaskan car enthusiasts, showcasing the power of social media and the universal appeal of an extraordinary road trip.
For what’s next, Lange plans to drive down the west coast to meet friends before finally heading home, bringing an epic journey to a close that many car enthusiasts only dream of.
