Hyundai Slashes IONIQ 5 Prices as Federal EV Incentives Expire
Fountain Valley, CA – Just one day after federal tax incentives for new EV purchases expired for American buyers, Hyundai has made a bold move, announcing eye-opening price reductions of up to $9,800 off the MSRP across its popular IONIQ 5 electric hatchback lineup. This strategic decision aims to keep the IONIQ 5 highly competitive in a rapidly evolving market, ensuring that the absence of federal incentives doesn’t translate into higher prices for consumers.
No Tax Incentives Don’t Mean Higher Prices for Hyundai
On October 1, Hyundai Motor North America confirmed significant price cuts for the 2026 IONIQ 5, stating that the adjustments are intended to “better align with current market dynamics and support increased U.S. production volume.” Depending on the trim level, prices will be reduced by anywhere from $7,800 to $9,800.

MSRP for the 2026 IONIQ 5 Now Starts at $35,000
The new price adjustments significantly lower the entry point for the IONIQ 5 lineup.
- The 2026 IONIQ 5 now ranges from $35,000 to $48,975, a substantial discount from the 2025 model’s pricing of $42,600 to $55,950.
- The lowest-priced model, the 2026 Hyundai IONIQ 5 SE RWD Standard Range, carries an MSRP of $35,000. This represents a $7,600 reduction from the previous year’s MSRP of $42,600.
- At the top end, the most expensive IONIQ 5, the Limited AWD, now has an MSRP of $48,975, a $9,225 reduction from its former MSRP of $58,200.
The most significant discounts have been applied to both the rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) versions of the mid-range SEL model:
- The SEL RWD version has been reduced from $49,600 to $39,800.
- The SEL AWD version was cut from $53,100 to $43,300. Both of these reflect substantial reductions, making the IONIQ 5 an even more attractive option for those looking to purchase an EV without the now-expired federal tax credit. This aggressive pricing strategy positions Hyundai strongly in the increasingly competitive EV market.
