Yamaha Jog E

The world of electric scooters just got very interesting. Yamaha has launched the new Jog E Electric Scooter in Japan to replace its petrol version.
The big headline isn’t the scooter itself. It’s what powers it. This Yamaha scooter runs on a Honda Mobile Power Pack. Yes, two fierce rivals are working together.
But while the Yamaha Jog E Electric Scooter Price looks cheap at 159,500 Yen (approx. ₹90,000), there is a massive catch that changes everything.
Here is our simple expert analysis of this cute, practical EV.

THE BIG CATCH: YOU DON’T OWN THE BATTERY

The price tag of ₹90,000 sounds great for a Japanese electric scooter. But here is the twist: that price does not include the battery.
You cannot buy the battery. Instead, you have to sign a separate contract with a company called Gachaco (a battery swapping service).
- How it works: You pay a monthly subscription fee to use their swapping stations. When your battery is low, you swap it for a fresh one.
- The Cost: Based on Gachaco’s pricing for similar scooters (like the Honda EM1 e:), plans start around 1,078 Yen (approx. ₹600) per month for light use, plus extra for the energy you use.
This “Battery-as-a-Service” (BaaS) model lowers the upfront cost but adds a forever monthly bill.
RANGE AND POWER: STRICTLY FOR THE CITY
The Jog E is a “Class 1” moped in Japan, which means it’s small and slow.
- Range: 53 km on a single charge. (Enough for city errands, but that’s it).
- Motor: A tiny AC synchronous motor making 2.3 PS (1.7 kW) and 90 Nm of torque.
- Speed: Don’t expect to go fast. It’s designed for tight city streets, not highways.
Why 53km is okay: Because of the swappable battery. Since you can swap an empty battery for a full one in seconds at a Gachaco station, “range anxiety” isn’t really a problem—as long as you live near a station.
DESIGN: SIMPLE, PRACTICAL, AND CUTE

The design is classic “Japanese Scooter”—simple, boxy, and functional.
- Colors: Dark Gray Metallic or Light Gray.
- Features: All-LED lights, a digital screen, a USB charger, and a 500ml bottle holder.
- Storage: It has some under-seat storage, but the battery takes up space.
It’s also incredibly light, weighing just 93 kg (with the battery), making it super easy to ride for anyone.
OUR EXPERT VERDICT

The Yamaha Jog E is a brilliant solution for crowded cities like Tokyo or Osaka. The “swap-and-go” system makes charging instant.
But for India? This exact model probably won’t come here. The low speed and monthly subscription model are tough sells in our market right now. However, the technology (using a common Honda battery for Yamaha bikes) is the future. We might see this tech in a faster, bigger Indian scooter soon.
