World’s First Wirelessly Charging Highway is Here: Electreon Tech Delivers 300 kW Power Near Paris

World’s First Wirelessly Charging Highway Is Here — More Powerful Than Tesla Superchargers

World’s First Wirelessly Charging Highway has been successfully implemented near Paris, France, marking a significant step toward making dynamic charging a real-world solution for electric vehicles (EVs). This innovative technology, pioneered by Electreon in collaboration with Vinci Group, is capable of delivering high-power charging directly to EVs as they drive, potentially allowing for significantly smaller EV batteries and fundamentally changing the way we think about range and refueling.

Dynamic Charging Becomes a Powerful Reality

While static wireless charging has been in development, dynamic charging—where the vehicle charges while in motion—has remained a futuristic concept until now.

  • French Pilot: Electreon and Vinci Group successfully implemented a roughly one-mile (1.5 kilometers) stretch of wirelessly charging highway southwest of Paris.
  • High Power Output: The road safely delivers a peak power of over 300 kW, averaging “well above 200 kW of wireless energy”.
  • Tesla Comparison: This output is notable, as it is more powerful than Tesla’s V3 Supercharger (which maxes out at 250 kW). Even though the V4 Supercharger can deliver up to 350 kW (and potentially 500 kW with the latest hardware), these are not yet as widely accessible as the V3 units.

Mainstream Adoption Soon: Smaller Batteries and Lower Costs

The implications of successful dynamic charging are enormous, extending beyond just faster charging.

  • Efficiency Benefits: A pilot project in Tel Aviv, Israel, demonstrated that buses could operate with up to 90% smaller batteries when utilizing dynamic charging. This significantly reduces vehicle weight, overall cost, and the environmental impact of large battery packs.
  • Real-World Validation: The project in France is still undergoing trials, but the success in delivering high, reliable power is a critical step forward.
  • CEO’s Confidence: Electreon CEO, Oren Ezer, stated, “The project proves that our technology is the only one capable of delivering high-power, reliable dynamic charging. I believe these results pave the way for the deployment of thousands of kilometers of wireless roads in France—and across the world”.

Global Momentum and Future Outlook

The technology is rapidly gaining traction globally, making mainstream adoption a likely possibility.

  • Global Presence: Electreon operates 18 projects across eight countries, indicating strong international interest and development.
  • Hardware Requirement: Vehicles do require the appropriate wireless charging hardware to take advantage of the system.

The success of the dynamic wireless charging highway transforms the EV (First Wirelessly Charging Highway) ownership experience by potentially eliminating range anxiety and drastically reducing charging downtime. This revolutionary technology represents a significant advancement in electric mobility, challenging the status quo of fixed-location charging and setting the stage for a new, seamless era of EV travel.
