EX30 Single Motor: Affordable Luxury EV Arrives

The highly anticipated EX30 Single Motor is finally in America, bringing a competitive price point to the luxury EV segment.

  • Under $40K: With a starting MSRP of $38,950, the EX30 Single Motor is positioned just over $1,000 cheaper than the new Tesla Model Y Standard ($39,990). This makes Volvo unique among luxury brands in offering an EV at this price.
  • Performance: It delivers 268 horsepower and an estimated range of 261 miles on a full charge. Despite having less power than the Model Y Standard (300 hp), the EX30’s lighter weight allows it to hit 0-60 mph in just over five seconds, outperforming the Model Y’s 6.8 seconds.
  • Trim Details: The EX30 Single Motor will be offered in Plus trim, though specific feature details for this base model are yet to be fully clarified.
  • EX30 Cross Country: For adventure-minded buyers, the EX30 Cross Country arrives, featuring increased ground clearance, available all-terrain tires, standard all-wheel drive, and rugged aesthetics. This twin-motor variant starts at $48,150, with no direct rugged competitor from Tesla.

Broader EV Lineup Updates for 2026

Volvo’s 2026 EV refresh extends across its entire range, from compact to flagship SUVs.

  • EX40 Black Edition: The EX40 now becomes the first Volvo EV in the U.S. to receive the stylish Black Edition treatment, featuring black trim elements inside and out. It comes with twin motors, producing up to 402 hp, a 0-60 mph time of 4.6 seconds, and offers a more practical and luxurious option than the EX30. Pricing is not yet confirmed, but the current EX40 starts at $56,445.
  • EX90 Software & Charging Upgrades: The flagship EX90 receives crucial updates aimed at addressing previous software concerns. These include a new core computer (free upgrade for 2025 owners) and 800-volt electrical architecture, enabling rapid charging that can add 155 miles of range in just 10 minutes.
  • New EX90 Single Motor: A new EX90 Single Motor variant will join the lineup, positioned below the Twin Motor and Twin Motor Performance models. While pricing wasn’t shared, it’s expected to be significantly cheaper than the current Twin Motor’s $81,290 starting price.
  • Most Powerful Volvo Ever: The EX90 Twin Motor Performance derivative will be boosted to 670 hp, making it Volvo’s most powerful vehicle to date.

Volvo’s Ambitious Goals & Remaining Challenges

These extensive updates are part of Volvo’s ambitious strategy to grow U.S. sales from 125,000 to 200,000 vehicles by 2030, putting the Swedish brand on par with Audi.

  • Electrified Allure: With more affordable variants and performance upgrades, Volvo’s electrified lineup is more appealing than ever, moving closer to a fully electrified future.
  • Software Reliability: The critical challenge for Volvo remains ensuring robust and reliable software systems, an area that has presented issues in the past. The EX90 updates aim to rectify this, which will be vital for consumer confidence and achieving their ambitious sales targets.
