Gone are the days when electric vehicles were considered an unaffordable luxury. The Indian automotive landscape is undergoing a significant transformation, with a growing number of accessible and capable EVs entering the market. If you’re looking to go green without a hefty price tag, a wide range of four-wheeled electric cars are now available for under ₹20 lakh (ex-showroom).

For urban commuters, compact EVs are a perfect fit. The ultra-compact MG Comet leads the pack, priced at just ₹7.5 lakh, and is equipped with a 17.3 kWh battery. Tata Motors also dominates this segment with its popular models. The Tata Tiago.ev offers an affordable entry point at ₹7.99 lakh with a 19.2 kWh battery, while the Tata Punch.ev brings the micro-SUV form factor to the EV market at ₹9.99 lakh with a 25 kWh battery.

For those needing more space and style, the options expand. The Tata Nexon.ev and Tata Tigor.ev are both priced at ₹12.49 lakh, offering a choice between an SUV and a sedan, with battery packs of 30 kWh and 26 kWh respectively. The Citroen eC3 provides another option at ₹12.9 lakh, powered by a 29.2 kWh battery. The MG Windsor EV is a larger vehicle priced at ₹12.9 lakh, featuring a 36 kWh battery pack.

Mahindra is making a strong push into the EV market with its SUV lineup. The well-known Mahindra XUV400 starts at ₹15.49 lakh and is equipped with a 38.5 kWh battery. The new Mahindra BE6 from the brand’s Born Electric range is also on the list at ₹18.90 lakh, featuring a substantial 59 kWh battery.

The competition is heating up with new entrants and established models. The Vinfast VF6 is a new face at ₹16.49 lakh with a large 59.6 kWh battery. Meanwhile, the Tata Curvv.ev is listed at ₹17.49 lakh with a 45 kWh battery. Both the Hyundai Creta Electric and Kia Clavis EV are priced at ₹17.99 lakh with 42 kWh batteries, while the popular MG ZS EV is available at ₹18.90 lakh with a 50.3 kWh battery. The market is set to expand even more with anticipated launches like the Maruti e-Vitara and Kia Syros EV.
