The New Toyota GR GT Fixes the Major Mistake of the Lexus LFA

For years, the Lexus LFA has been a legend, but it had one big problem: almost no one could buy it. Now, the upcoming Toyota GR GT is here to change that narrative. According to recent reports, Toyota is taking a completely different approach with this new supercar, aiming to fix the “ultra-limited” strategy that defined its predecessor.

How the Toyota GR GT Improves on History

The project manager for the Toyota GR GT, Takashi Doi, recently shared that Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda has regrets about the Lexus LFA. Specifically, he regrets capping production at just 500 units. That decision made the car “out of reach” for most enthusiasts and turned it into a collector’s item rather than a car to be driven.

The new goal is different. The team wants this halo supercar to be track-ready but also accessible enough to pass on the joy of driving to the next generation. This means we can expect higher production numbers compared to the LFA.

Price and Strategy Comparison

To see exactly how Toyota is changing its strategy, look at the comparison below. The Toyota GR GT is positioning itself to be much more attainable than the LFA was.

Toyota GR GT Performance and Specs

While specific details are still being finalized, early information suggests this car will be a beast on the road. The Toyota GR GT is expected to feature a twin-turbocharged V8 hybrid engine with rear-wheel drive.

Current estimates put the power output around 641 horsepower. It will likely come with an eight-speed automatic transmission and advanced systems like dry-sump lubrication. However, Toyota fans will have to be patient, as the production model is not expected to debut until around 2027.

Until then, Toyota continues to support car lovers with models like the GR86 and the GR Supra, ensuring that the spirit of racing remains alive while we wait for the ultimate flagship to arrive.
