Tesla Executives Depart: The People Behind Cybertruck and Model Y are Leaving Tesla

Tesla executives depart in a significant shake-up for the brand, leaving a major dent in the executive lineup. Two key figures, Siddhant Awasthi (the “Father of the Cybertruck”) and Emmanuel Lamacchia (Vehicle Program Manager for Model Y), announced their resignations on the same day. This news adds another layer of challenge for Tesla as it navigates slowing EV sales, recent recalls, and market uncertainty.

The “Father of the Cybertruck” Exits

Siddhant Awasthi, a key figure in the Cybertruck’s difficult birth and development, announced his exit on LinkedIn after eight years of service.

“I recently made one of the hardest decisions of my life to leave Tesla after an incredible run,” Awasthi wrote. He highlighted his milestones over the past 8 years, including “ramping up Model 3, working on Giga Shanghai, developing new electronics and wireless architectures, and delivering the once-in-a-lifetime Cybertruck—all before hitting 30.”

Model Y Program Manager Leaves Simultaneously

Shockingly, Awasthi wasn’t the only top-level executive to leave Tesla on the same day. Emmanuel Lamacchia, who spent the majority of his tenure heavily involved in the Model Y project, also tendered his resignation.

“What a journey it’s been… from leading NPI (new product introduction) for Model 3 and Model Y variants to becoming the Vehicle Program Manager for Model Y, the best-selling car in the world,” said the Tesla Model Y program manager.

Another Dent In Tesla’s Armor

These high-profile Tesla executives depart without giving specific reasons, but the timing is critical. The departures come as a blow to a “somewhat struggling” Tesla. The global EV market is in flux regarding demand, and Cybertruck sales, in particular, haven’t been stellar, leading to inventory pile-ups and “huge discounts.”

The news of these Tesla executives depart also follows major recalls this year, including 46,000 vehicles for exterior trims that could detach while driving, and 6,000 vehicles in October for a loose off-road lightbar. With so much going on, let’s hope this latest development enables a fresh start for the brand heading forward.
