Subaru Brataroo 9500 Turbo video Debuts With 670 HP and 9,500 RPM Redline in Australia
Extreme sports athlete Travis Pastrana has unleashed his wildest Gymkhana film yet, Aussie Shred, featuring a custom 1978 BRAT pickup. The Subaru Brataroo 9500 Turbo video shows Pastrana pushing the limits of the one-off machine through the Outback, the streets of Sydney Harbour, and even the famed Bathurst Mount Panorama circuit.
This is Pastrana’s third fully bespoke Gymkhana car, and it continues the legacy of controlled chaos started by Ken Block. Australian authorities, who previously rejected filming for Gymkhana 9, clearly softened their stance, allowing the Brataroo to dance through the land that coined the term ‘hoon.’
Here is a closer look at the insanity under the carbon fiber skin.
The Ultimate Subaru BRAT
Built by Subaru Motorsports USA and technical partner Vermont SportsCar (VSC), the Brataroo is engineered to WRC safety standards but tuned for cinematic spectacle. The “9500 Turbo” in the name refers to the engine’s sky-high redline.

The attention to detail extends to the interior, where the original 1978 dashboard nods to the BRAT’s charm with flax-composite wood-grain accents, while the old HVAC controls are repurposed to operate the active aero system.

Aussie Shred: Pastrana’s Most Unhinged Film
The Subaru Brataroo 9500 Turbo video delivers on its promise of extreme stunts, thanks to its high-revving power and specialized active aerodynamics.
- Highlights: Pastrana tests the car by flying 160 feet across a 10-story deep canyon, skimming across a deep lake, hanging two tires off a pier, and drifting up Bathurst’s Mount Panorama.
- Cameos: The film leans on local motorsport icons, featuring two-time Dakar Rally champion Toby Price, V8 Supercars drivers, and the popular YouTube duo Moog and Marty of Mighty Car Mods.
This film marks the last planned Gymkhana film starring Pastrana, making it a spectacular piece of closure for Hoonigan’s unfinished business in Australia, a place where the Gymkhana series had previously been denied entry due to anti-hoon laws.
