The electric hatchback market is buzzing again as Renault has launched the new Kwid EV (Kwid E-Tech) in Brazil at a starting price of BRL 99,990 (approx. ₹16 lakh). Essentially a badge-engineered version of the Dacia Spring EV sold in Europe, the Kwid E-Tech is now more modern, sharper, and better equipped than before. With India already spotting test mules of this EV, the launch in our market looks imminent.

Design – Sharper, Bolder, More Premium

The new Renault Kwid EV embraces a bold design evolution. While inspired by the Dacia Spring, it carries unique Renault elements such as:

  • A new grille with vertical slats and Renault’s updated logo above the charging port.
  • Y-shaped LED DRLs paired with sleek headlights.
  • Revised front and rear bumpers with contrasting design tweaks.
  • Connected LED tail lamps for a modern rear profile.

The Kwid EV rides on 14-inch wheels with dual-tone covers, while chunky cladding on the arches and doors add rugged appeal. Overall, the design now looks more upmarket than the older Kwid E-Tech.

Interiors & Features – Affordable Yet Tech-Laden

Inside, the Kwid EV gets a layered dashboard layout with premium touches. A 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay takes center stage. Other highlights include:

  • Digital instrument cluster
  • Auto climate control
  • ADAS Level-1 (advanced driver assistance)
  • Modern steering wheel with multifunction controls
  • 290L boot capacity

Renault has clearly aimed to make the Kwid E-Tech a well-rounded urban EV with comfort and safety in mind.

Battery & Performance – Compact but Capable

The Brazil-spec Renault Kwid EV packs a 26.8 kWh battery paired with a 65 bhp electric motor.

  • 0–100 km/h comes up in 14.6 seconds
  • Expected range: ~250–280 km (real-world)
  • DC fast charging capable

This setup makes it an ideal city-focused EV while keeping costs under check.

Renault Kwid EV vs Competition in India

When launched in India, the Kwid EV will compete with the Tata Tiago EV, MG Comet EV, and upcoming Maruti Suzuki eWX. However, features like ADAS and wireless Android Auto give it a distinct edge.

India Launch Timeline

The Kwid EV has already been spied testing on Indian roads, hinting at a launch in 2026. With an expected starting price of around ₹10–12 lakh (ex-showroom) for the smaller battery version, it could become India’s most affordable ADAS-equipped EV.

Final Thoughts

The Renault Kwid EV (Kwid E-Tech) represents Renault’s serious push towards affordable electric mobility. With its smart design, ADAS, and city-friendly range, it could disrupt the entry-level EV space in India, just like the original petrol Kwid did years ago. If priced competitively, the Kwid EV has the potential to become the first EV for the masses in India.
