Ram Trucks Cancels Its All-Electric Pickup Truck

In a surprising turn of events, Ram Trucks has canceled its highly anticipated all-electric pickup truck, the Ram 1500 REV. According to a brief statement from its parent company, Stellantis, the decision was made because demand for full-size battery electric trucks is “slowing in North America.” This move comes after years of teasers, concepts, and a full production reveal of the truck, which was intended to be a direct rival to the Ford F-150 Lightning.

What Was Planned for the Electric Ram Trucks

The canceled all-electric Ram 1500 REV was set to be a powerhouse. It was going to feature twin electric motors that would produce an impressive 645 bhp and 620 lb ft of torque. Buyers were also going to have a choice of a massive 168 kWh or a even larger 229 kWh battery, which would have given the truck a class-leading range. The truck was planned to be built on Stellantis’ STLA Large platform.

A New Focus on the Plug-in Hybrid

With the all-electric truck now canceled, Ram is shifting its focus to the plug-in hybrid version, which was previously called the “Ramcharger.” The company has decided to change its name to the Ram 1500 REV, which was the name of the canceled electric truck. This strategic shift in focus highlights the company’s new plan to reassess its product strategy in a market where electric vehicles are facing some headwinds.
