New Gen Toyota Hilux to Debut Next Month: All Key Details Revealed
The Toyota Hilux, a legendary truck known for its toughness and durability worldwide, is gearing up for a major overhaul. After eight successful generations and over 19 million units sold globally, the heavily revised ninth-generation model is set to make its world premiere at the Thailand Motor Expo between November 28 and December 10, 2025. This launch is highly anticipated, as the Hilux has established a legacy of rugged, no-nonsense engineering since its origins in collaboration with Hino Motors.
A Rugged New Design
Patent sketches and spy images hint at a bold new look for the Hilux. Expect to see a taller, more upright front fascia dominated by a large grille, flanked by slender headlamps and possibly a new LED light strip. The truck will also feature rugged, squared-off wheel arches with thick plastic cladding. Despite the comprehensive redesign, the core IMV ladder frame setup appears to have been retained, ensuring the truck maintains its renowned durability and off-road capability.
Tech-Forward Interior and Features
The new Hilux will receive significant interior upgrades to keep it competitive. Patent filings confirm a new interior treatment featuring a fully digital instrument console and a large infotainment screen. The focus is on a more upmarket feel, with premium trims and materials. In a move to improve the driving experience, the new model is also expected to include electric power steering and a suite of driver assistive systems.
Engine Options: Hybrid Power and a Potential GR Model
Under the hood, the Hilux is embracing electrification. The familiar 2.8-liter diesel motor already features a 48-volt mild-hybrid technology. However, reports suggest a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version is currently in development for 2026. Performance fans may get a treat with the possibility of a GR Hilux, which could adapt the Tacoma’s 2.4-liter i-Force Max hybrid powertrain, delivering around 326 hp and 630 Nm of torque. Toyota has also strongly hinted that a fully electric Hilux will appear before the year is out.
