BMW has launched its first production car from the new “Neue Klasse” project: the all-electric iX3 SUV. This car is the result of billions in research and development and is designed to completely change how BMW makes vehicles. The company is taking a big gamble on this new strategy, which aims to make its cars ready for a future with many different types of powertrains and technology.

A Bold New Look
The new iX3 has a much cleaner and simpler design than previous BMWs. The surfaces are smooth, with fewer lines and creases, and all chrome has been removed. The famous kidney grille has been redesigned and can even be outlined with light. This bold new style is not just for the iX3; BMW says it will define the design of all its future cars, including the next-gen 3-series.
High-Tech Interior
The inside of the new iX3 is a a big change. It features the new “Panoramic iDrive,” which has a large central screen and a full-width display below the windscreen that replaces the traditional instrument cluster. This system runs on a new, simpler software called BMW Operating System X (OS X). While it’s very modern, the car still has some physical buttons on the steering wheel and center console, as well as a new “supercomputer” to handle driver aids naturally.

Performance and Range
The new iX3 is powered by two electric motors that produce a total of 464 bhp. It can go from 0 to 62 mph in just 4.9 seconds. The car uses a new 800-volt battery with a capacity of 108 kWh, which gives it an impressive 500-mile range. It can charge at up to 400 kW and is even compatible with older 400-volt chargers, making it very flexible.
