Mercedes Benz 400 kW fast charging Hub Opens at Starbucks in California
Mercedes-Benz has opened its first public High-Power Charging site at a Starbucks in Red Bluff, California, marking the debut of its nationwide plan to pair ultra-fast EV chargers with major retail partners. The Mercedes Benz 400 kW fast charging hub sits directly on the critical I-5 corridor and is among the fastest publicly available in the U.S.
The location features 400 kW DC fast chargers capable of adding up to 300 miles in around 10 minutes, depending on the vehicle. This convenience-focused model is designed for real-world usability as the brand prepares for a massive wave of new EVs, including the upcoming next-gen Mercedes-CLA EV.

Here is a breakdown of the partnership, technology, and future plans.
A New Charging Model Built Around Convenience
The new charging site was built in partnership with MN8 Energy, and its model is entirely focused on customer experience rather than isolated charging lots.
| Feature | Specification | Benefit |
| Charger Output | 400 kW DC Fast Chargers | Among the fastest charging speeds publicly available in the U.S. |
| Location Model | Starbucks Partnership | Allows drivers to grab food/coffee while charging, optimizing time. |
| Compatibility | NACS and CCS Plugs | Open to all EVs (Tesla, Mercedes, Hyundai, Ford, etc.). |
| Speed Goal | Adds up to 300 miles in ~10 minutes | Matches the convenience needed for long-distance travel. |
| Expansion Plan | Over 100 Starbucks Stores | Ambitious nationwide rollout along long-haul corridors. |
The chargers support both major plug standards—NACS (North American Charging Standard, used by Tesla) and CCS (Combined Charging System)—keeping the site open to all EV brands. This cross-brand approach mirrors the broader industry shift toward openness and compatibility as more EVs enter the market.

Part of Mercedes’ Broader Performance Push
The new charging infrastructure is a key piece of Mercedes’ larger strategy to support its next generation of EVs. Models like the upcoming electric AMG GLC depend on reliable ultra-fast public charging to support long-distance use.
The Mercedes Benz 400 kW fast charging commitment ensures that the brand’s charging network matches the performance its future models aim to deliver. If Mercedes follows through on installing chargers at more than 100 locations, this partnership could become one of the most practical charging expansions in the U.S., adding critical high-power access where it is still rare.
