This Insane Mazda Miata V6 Has Supercar Power

The Mazda MX-5 is famous for being light and fun, but it has never been known for massive horsepower. That changes now. A UK-based company called Rocketeer has created a custom Mazda Miata V6 that transforms the friendly roadster into a supercar killer. By swapping the standard engine for a Jaguar powerplant, they have created a machine with a power-to-weight ratio that rivals legendary supercars like the Ferrari F40.

What Makes the Mazda Miata V6 ‘Keiryo’ Special?

Rocketeer’s latest project is called the “Keiryo,” which means “lightweight” in Japanese. While the standard ND Miata is already light, this modified Mazda Miata V6 takes weight reduction to the extreme.

Through extensive modifications, Rocketeer has dropped the wet weight to just 1,874 lbs. At the same time, they replaced the stock 4-cylinder engine with a modified 3.0-liter Jaguar AJ30 V6 engine. The result is a staggering 370 horsepower in a car that weighs less than a grand piano.

Performance Comparison: Miata vs. Supercars

To understand just how crazy this build is, we can compare it to the standard model and a legit supercar. The numbers show that this isn’t just a toy; it is a serious performance machine.

As you can see, while the Ferrari has more raw power, the Mazda Miata V6 is significantly lighter, giving it an explosive acceleration feel that few cars can match.

Cost and Availability

Building the ultimate Miata is not cheap. Rocketeer notes that a full, hand-crafted restoration like this can take up to a year to complete. The prices for full restorations start at around £75,000 (approx. $100,000).

However, Rocketeer has been building Mazda Miata V6 conversions for years, including kits for the older NB generation. For those who can’t afford the six-figure price tag of the Keiryo, Rocketeer also offers turnkey sports cars starting at a much more accessible £19,995 (approx. $26,600).

With the future of the stock Miata likely heading toward hybridization, analog monsters like this V6 conversion are becoming rare treasures for true driving enthusiasts.
