Maruti Suzuki Future is Hybrid and Electric: 4 New Cars Launching by 2027

Maruti Suzuki India is doubling down on its utility vehicle segment with an ambitious plan to launch four new models in 2026-2027. This strategy includes the brand’s first fully electric SUV, an innovative range-extender hybrid, and two new MPVs, demonstrating a shift toward electrification and diversified mobility solutions. The new lineup will follow the recent successful launch of the Victoris, reinforcing Maruti’s presence in the premium segment.

1. Maruti Suzuki e Vitara: The First Electric SUV

The e Vitara will be Maruti’s first all-electric car in India, with production already underway at the Hansalpur plant in Gujarat. Though its debut has been delayed, it is now expected to launch in early 2026. This electric SUV will be available in two battery options: a 49 kWh pack and a larger 61 kWh pack, with the latter claiming a range of around 500 kilometers on a single charge. The India-spec model is confirmed to feature a 2WD (two-wheel drive) configuration only.

2. Maruti Suzuki Fronx Hybrid: A New Range Extender

Maruti Suzuki is developing an in-house HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) Series hybrid technology, also known as a range extender hybrid. The Fronx crossover will be the first model to feature this new system, powered by the familiar 1.2-liter Z12E petrol engine acting as a generator. Expected to go on sale in the first half of 2026, the Fronx Hybrid could receive minor cosmetic updates alongside the new powertrain, which is designed to deliver exceptional fuel efficiency.

3. Maruti Suzuki New Compact MPV (Codenamed YDB)

Maruti is working on a new compact MPV, codenamed YDB, which will be strategically positioned below the Ertiga. This model is expected to measure less than 4 meters long, allowing it to benefit from tax advantages. It will rival the Renault Triber and will likely be sold through the Nexa dealership chain. The MPV is rumored to use the 1.2-liter 3-cylinder Z-Series petrol engine paired with the new HEV Series hybrid technology.

4. Maruti Suzuki New 7-Seater SUV

A new three-row 7-seater SUV is also in the pipeline, with a launch expected in 2026-2027. This premium SUV will target rivals such as the Mahindra XUV700, Hyundai Alcazar, and Tata Safari. It is likely to measure more than 4.5 meters long and use the familiar Global-C platform, but with a longer wheelbase to accommodate the extra pair of seats and ensure a comfortable ride for the extra occupants.
