Mahindra’s New Electric SUVs: Are the BE 6 and XEV 9e Ready for Your Family?
For years, electric vehicles (EVs) in India were often seen as a second car—perfect for quick trips around the city, but not quite ready for long highway journeys. Mahindra is here to challenge that idea with its new BE 6 and XEV 9e. These advanced SUVs, built on the revolutionary INGLO platform, are designed to be your family’s primary car, offering the range, space, and performance to confidently replace a petrol or diesel vehicle.

No More Range Anxiety
One of the biggest concerns with EVs is range anxiety, but these new SUVs aim to solve that. The top-end variants, with their 79 kWh battery packs, have a certified range of up to 683 km for the BE 6 and 656 km for the XEV 9e. Even in real-world conditions, you can expect a range of over 500 km on a single charge. And with a 175 kW DC fast charger, you can boost the battery from 20% to 80% in just 20 minutes, making long road trips a breeze.
Everyday Practicality for Families
The BE 6 and XEV 9e are built on the groundbreaking INGLO platform, which was created specifically for electric vehicles. This “born-electric” design allows for a flat floor and a long wheelbase, giving you a spacious cabin with more room than a typical SUV. You also get plenty of storage with a large boot and a usable frunk (front trunk), perfect for holidays. The ride is made even more comfortable with a special suspension system tuned for Indian roads.
Power Without Compromise
These electric SUVs are far from boring. They deliver powerful performance, with up to 282 bhp and 380 Nm of torque. This lets them sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.7 seconds, with a top speed of over 200 km/h. Unlike most rivals, these EVs feature rear-wheel drive dynamics, which makes the driving experience more engaging and exciting. The BE 6 and XEV 9e prove that you don’t have to give up performance for an electric car.
Smarter, Safer, and Better Value
Inside the cabin, you are greeted by a high-tech space with a triple-screen cockpit, a premium 16-speaker audio system, and advanced features like self-parking and Level 2+ ADAS. The cost of ownership is also much lower. Running costs are just Rs 1.1/km compared to about Rs 8.9/km for a petrol or diesel SUV. Over five years, the savings are massive.
Here is a summary of the long-term cost savings:
