Kia Syros Failed? SUV Registers Just 465 Units in September 2025

Kia India has enjoyed strong success with models like the Seltos, Sonet, and Carens, but its latest product, the Kia Syros, seems to be struggling to find buyers. In September 2025, the Syros registered just 465 units, making it one of the weakest performers in the brand’s lineup.

This is surprising considering the Syros comes with both turbo-petrol and diesel engine options, a rarity in its segment. Despite that, early sales numbers suggest that customers are not convinced by Kia’s newest SUV.

Why the Syros Isn’t Clicking

The Syros sits in a tricky position in Kia’s portfolio. Positioned above the Sonet but below the Seltos, it overlaps with existing models in terms of features and pricing. Many industry experts believe Kia could have instead introduced a premium Sonet variant with enhanced safety and interiors, rather than launching an all-new nameplate.

Another drawback has been the lack of a clear identity. While the Sonet is known as a feature-rich compact SUV and the Seltos as a stylish mid-size SUV, the Syros struggles to define its USP in a crowded market.

First Flop for Kia India?

Since its debut in 2019, Kia India has built a reputation for launching successful products tailored for Indian buyers. The Seltos was an instant hit, the Sonet became a segment leader, and the Carens has carved its own space in the MPV category.

The Syros, however, looks to be Kia’s first underperformer making people believe Kia Syros Failed. With just 465 units sold in September 2025, its numbers pale in comparison to rivals as well as Kia’s own lineup. Unless Kia repositions the Syros or improves its value proposition, it risks becoming a niche product with limited acceptance.

Outlook

It’s still early days, and festive season demand could offer some respite. However, Kia may need to rethink its strategy for the Syros if it wants to avoid its first real flop in the Indian market.
