Plan B-The Kia Syros EV Launch.
Let’s be honest: the Kia Syros is a massive sales flop. After a strong start, sales of the petrol and diesel models have crashed. It sold fewer than 500 units in September, which is a disaster for a new Kia SUV. It seems buyers just didn’t like its high price or its unusual design.

So, what’s Kia’s plan to fix it? It’s not a facelift. It’s “Plan B”: The Kia Syros EV Launch.
The new electric Syros has just been spied testing, and this time, it was seen charging up. This is Kia’s big gamble to save the “Syros” brand name by attacking the real king of this segment: the Tata Nexon EV.

What We Learned from the Spy Shots

The new spy shots show the Syros EV plugged in at a charging station. This confirms it’s in the final stages of testing before its 2026 launch.
But it also reveals a strange choice. The charging port is on the left front fender (the side panel). This is very different from Kia’s other new EV, the Carens Clavis, which has its port right in the front grille. A front port is much more practical for parking at charging stations. This side-port is a less user-friendly design.
It’s a “Derived EV,” But With a Twist

The Syros EV is a “derived EV,” which means it’s built on the same body as the petrol Syros. But Kia is doing something very smart: they are making the EV version better than the petrol one.
To fight the Nexon EV, Kia is expected to add even more features to the Syros EV, such as:
- Fog lights
- A cooled glovebox
- Rear ventilated (cooled) seats (a big new feature)
This is on top of the already-loaded features from the petrol model, like the giant 30-inch “Trinity” display (the dual 12.3-inch screens), Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera, and a panoramic sunroof.
Quick Look: Syros ICE vs. Syros EV
| Feature | Kia Syros (Petrol/Diesel Flop) | Kia Syros EV (Plan B) |
| Sales | Fewer than 500 units (Sept 2025) | Not yet launched |
| Why? | High price, weird design | To fight the Nexon EV |
| New Features | N/A | Rear Cooled Seats, Fog Lights |
| Charging Port | N/A | Side of the front fender |
Expected Specs, Price, and Launch

We expect the Kia Syros EV Launch to happen in 2026. It will likely come with a battery pack around 40 kWh, giving it a real-world range of about 400 km. This puts it in a direct fight with the long-range Nexon EV.
Expert Verdict
This is a high-risk move by Kia. The Syros brand is already damaged. Instead of fixing the petrol model’s high price, Kia is launching an even more expensive EV version.
They are betting that a huge list of features (like rear cooled seats and that giant screen) will be enough to beat the Nexon EV, which is the “default” choice for most EV buyers in India. This is a bold gamble, and we’ll be watching to see if “Plan B” can save Kia’s first big failure.
