Jaecoo Pet-Friendly SUV Designed With Your Dog in Mind
A Jaecoo pet-friendly SUV is pioneering a new vehicle category by making pet comfort and owner peace of mind a factory-installed feature, not an afterthought. While pet-friendly vehicles have largely been relegated to concept exercises, there really hasn’t been a concerted push to develop, build, and sell cars that cater to people who love their pets like their own children.
Jaecoo, a spin-off brand under the Chinese mega-automaker Chery, just took the brief seriously. As reported by CarExpert, the brand has officially received certification from the German transport authority TUV SUD, one of the stricter certification bodies in the world, for its new J5 SUV.

The TUV-Certified “Pet-Friendly Cabin”
According to the report, Jaecoo has developed a unique, new organic silicon-based seat material for the J5 SUV. This advanced material is specifically designed to be both antibacterial (achieving a 99.9% antibacterial rate) and highly scratch-resistant, addressing the two biggest concerns for pet owners.
This innovation officially earned the vehicle the “Pet-Friendly Cabin Certification” from TUV SUD, making it a world-first in this regard.
Rigorous Testing for a Durable Interior
Any type of official certification process requires proper and stringent testing. In Jaecoo’s case, this new pet-friendly material went through 32 separate laboratory tests to confirm its capabilities and durability against claws, dirt, and daily wear.
Jaecoo is proud of its new certification. In fact, during an exclusive interview with CarExpert, Shawn Xu, CEO of Jaecoo, said, “Jaecoo is a brand for outdoors people, and they must enjoy this with their friends, their children, and also their pets. This is what Jaecoo means for everyone, including dogs. We are number one with this.”

A “Lightbulb Moment” from Customer Feedback
What makes this new Jaecoo pet-friendly SUV so interesting is that the company seemingly listened to direct feedback from a customer. Mr. Xu detailed how the idea came about during a trip to Poland last year, where he encountered a couple looking for a car big enough to fit their dog.
That conversation created a lightbulb moment for the CEO, who then returned to China and asked his engineering team how they could cater to that specific segment. The result speaks for itself: after extensive research and development, the new organic silicon seat material exists not only to protect against pets but also against the elements for all outdoor enthusiasts.
How the J5 Compares to Other “Pet-Friendly” Features
While the Jaecoo J5 seats are one of the first truly integrated, certified pet-centric car features, most automakers have stayed in touch with the pet-loving community in other ways. Typically, this involves adding small things here and there to make pet transportation easier for owners.
Most of these “features” are just existing designs marketed differently, such as a low trunk entry for easy loading, a larger boot space, or pet-safe tie-down straps in the cargo area. Jaecoo’s approach of engineering the actual cabin materials for pets is a significant step beyond this.

Tapping a New, Lucrative Market
In a world where pet ownership is taking on a more central role among the new generation of car buyers, Jaecoo might have just tapped into a sleeping but highly lucrative market. By investing in and certifying a solution for a common problem, the Jaecoo pet-friendly SUV has created a unique selling proposition that no rival can currently claim.
