Hyundai Hybrid Strategy Accelerates: 3 New SUVs Heading to India by 2028

Hyundai Motor Company is aggressively accelerating its hybrid SUV strategy for the Indian market, planning to introduce up to three new models over the next few years. This push is part of Hyundai’s larger global vision to redefine mobility and offer sustainable alternatives. The upcoming lineup includes the next-generation Creta, a premium three-row SUV codenamed Ni1i, and the globally praised Palisade Hybrid.

1. New Hyundai Creta (Next-Generation)

The next-generation Hyundai Creta, codenamed SX3, is in the pipeline for a full redesign and a completely new platform, with market entry expected by 2027. While it will carry forward the reliable 1.5-liter petrol and diesel engines, a hybrid option is also being readied. This focus on hybrid technology ensures that the Creta maintains its competitive edge and appeals to buyers looking for better fuel efficiency.

2. Hyundai Ni1i SUV (Premium Three-Row)

Codenamed Ni1i, this upcoming three-row SUV is expected to adopt a hybrid setup, likely featuring a reworked version of Hyundai’s familiar 1.5-liter NA petrol engine. This model will strategically slot between the Alcazar and the Tucson, filling a key gap in Hyundai’s portfolio for premium, large SUVs. Although a launch window isn’t confirmed, market chatter suggests it could arrive around 2027, with production expected to take place at Hyundai’s newly acquired Talegaon facility.

3. Hyundai Palisade Hybrid (Flagship Power)

Hyundai’s latest global hybrid technology, first seen in the Palisade, is tipped to make its way to India by 2028. This powerful system pairs a 2.5-liter turbo-petrol motor with an electric unit, producing a combined 334 hp and 460 Nm of torque. While the global model manages an impressive efficiency figure of just above 14 km per liter, its potential launch would introduce a powerful, large hybrid SUV to the Indian market.
