After more than a decade of planning, Hyundai is confident that its recent success in India, including a strong stock market debut, provides the perfect foundation for this new venture. It’s Official: The Genesis India Project is Underway
Hyundai Motor India’s COO, Tarun Garg, has officially confirmed that the company is “strategically evaluating” the brand’s introduction. To show they’re serious, Hyundai has appointed Anuraag Singh as the new Vertical Head for Genesis India to lead the project. This confirms that Genesis is moving from a distant possibility to a concrete action plan for the company.
A Look at the Extensive Genesis Lineup
The Genesis portfolio has grown rapidly to include eight models across key global segments. This includes sleek sedans like the G70 and G80, as well as popular SUVs such as the GV60 and GV70. The brand also offers three fully electric models (EVs), showcasing a commitment to a greener future. The GV60 and Electrified GV70 are prime examples of this innovation.
Why SUVs and EVs Are the Smart Choice for India
Hyundai is focusing on its Genesis SUVs first, which makes perfect sense given India’s strong consumer preference for this body style and our widespread road conditions. The favorable goods and services tax (GST) rate of just 5 percent for EVs also makes models like the GV60 or Electrified GV80 top contenders for the first launch. The cars will initially be imported as Completely Built Units (CBU), but Hyundai may switch to local assembly as demand grows.
