GMC Is on Track for a Record Year And The Models That Helped Them Do it
GMC is on Track for a Record Year, with its Q3 sales report revealing an unprecedented surge across its lineup, positioning the brand for a historic 2025. Through Q3 2025, GMC sales in the U.S. were up 10% year-to-date (YTD), marking the seventh consecutive quarter of year-over-year (YoY) growth. This remarkable momentum is driven by the stellar performance of its Sierra pickup, record growth in SUVs like the Yukon and Acadia, and an impressive surge in its electric vehicle (EV) portfolio, particularly the Hummer EV and Sierra EV.
GMC’s Momentum Builds Toward Record 2025
GMC’s strong performance builds on a successful 2024, which saw record U.S. sales, a 10% overall increase, and a 33% surge in Q4. This consistent growth trajectory firmly establishes GMC as a dominant force in the truck and SUV markets.
A key driver of this success has been the GMC Sierra pickup, which achieved its best-ever Q3 and a record YTD increase of 12%. The Sierra has also logged an incredible 12 consecutive quarters of YoY growth, a milestone unmatched by any other truck in the market.
Beyond domestic success, GMC has been moving a record number of units in established international markets such as Canada, Mexico, and the Middle East, while also expanding its footprint into Korea, Australia, and New Zealand over the last 18 months, indicating a robust global strategy.
ICE Truck and SUV Dominance Continues
Despite the growing emphasis on electrification, GMC’s internal combustion engine (ICE) models are showing no signs of losing momentum. The sustained positive U.S. sales numbers for the Sierra truck, along with the Yukon, Acadia, and Terrain SUVs, underscore the enduring appeal and market strength of the brand’s traditional offerings.
- GMC Sierra: Its unprecedented 12 consecutive quarters of YoY growth can be attributed to its extensive configurations, available in both the light-duty Sierra 1500 (eight trims for 2025) and the heavy-duty Sierra Heavy Duty (HD), including the 2500HD (seven trims) and 3500HD (six trims).
- GMC Yukon: Moved 19,991 units in Q3, marking its highest sales figure since 2007 and achieving a notable 15.97% YTD increase.
- GMC Acadia: While Q3 saw a 13.63% decline to 12,485 units YoY, its impressive 30.24% YTD growth outweighs any short-term concerns.
- GMC Terrain: Experienced a 16.75% YTD sales drop but turned heads with a significant 36.04% YoY increase during Q3 at 16,164 units, demonstrating strong quarterly performance.
Electric Vehicle Leadership: HUMMER EV and Sierra EV
GMC is also playing a pivotal role in General Motors’ broader EV success. GM is now the U.S.’s number-two EV seller behind Tesla, largely thanks to the contributions of GMC’s Hummer EV and Sierra EV.
- GMC Hummer EV: Recorded a 21.86% YoY Q3 sales increase at 5,246 units, with a substantial 48.65% YTD surge. This is a significant win for GMC, especially considering the Hummer EV pickup’s $99,540 base price, demonstrating strong demand in the high-end EV segment.
- GMC Sierra EV: Launched for the 2024 model year, the newer Sierra EV saw an astonishing 771.84% YoY Q3 U.S. sales surge at 3,374 units, boasting an incredible 1,488.37% YTD rise.
The successful integration and market acceptance of both the Hummer EV and Sierra EV have not only bolstered GMC’s EV portfolio but also strengthened its overall margin and sales expansion, positioning the brand at the forefront of electric innovation within the truck and SUV categories. This dual-pronged strategy of maintaining ICE dominance while rapidly growing EV presence is clearly driving GMC toward a record-breaking year.
