Genesis GV90 Coach Doors (Rolls-Royce-Style) Confirmed by Spy Shots

The Genesis GV90 coach doors are officially transitioning from concept to reality. Genesis is set to crown its SUV lineup with a new flagship three-row model, expected to be called the GV90, and it will look remarkably similar to the concept car that previewed it—right down to its most novel feature.

In 2024, Genesis previewed its flagship SUV with the stunning Neolun concept, which featured no B-pillar and a pair of rear-hinged rear coach doors. While this “suicide door” style is common on concepts, it’s almost always engineered out for production. However, Genesis stated at the time that its door configuration had “reached a level where its application to production vehicles is now feasible.”

A Design Feat Even Rolls-Royce Avoids

The spy shots clearly show that Genesis has engineered a production SUV not only with rear-hinged coach doors but also without a B-pillar. This creates a massive, unobstructed opening for passengers. (Genesis GV90 Coach Doors)

This is a significant engineering feat. Even the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, famous for its coach doors, still retains a traditional B-pillar for structural rigidity. The GV90’s pillarless design suggests Genesis has heavily reinforced the chassis and doors to maintain crash safety and refinement, a solution likely detailed in the brand’s recent patent filings for advanced door sealing and latching systems.

Neolun Concept Interior Makes the Cut

The production car is set to closely resemble the Neolun concept externally, with a boxy yet rounded body and a linear roofline, likely to maximize headroom for all three rows. The brand’s signature split-level lighting elements are visible on the prototype.

Inside, the spied prototype features a striking blue and purple leather interior, with tufted inserts on the doors that look pulled directly from the Neolun concept. While the concept’s four-seat layout with swiveling front seats may not be standard, the spy shots confirm a highly luxurious, tech-forward cabin.

An All-Electric Flagship on a New Platform

The production GV90 is set to be an all-electric flagship, even though Genesis has recently walked away from its goal of an all-EV lineup by 2030.

The GV90 is expected to be the brand’s first model on the new “eM” platform, an advanced architecture with 800-volt charging capabilities. This new platform is rumored to support much larger batteries and improved efficiency, with some reports suggesting a 113.2 kWh pack and a potential EPA range of over 350 miles.

Genesis’s Evolving Powertrain Strategy

While the GV90 will be a pure EV, it joins a brand that is now embracing a multi-pathway approach. Genesis is rolling out its first hybrid and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) models over the next few years. The brand also confirmed it is working on a separate new platform, launching in 2028, which will support hybrids, EVs, and EREVs.

Another New SUV in the Pipeline

The GV90 isn’t the only new Genesis SUV in the works. The brand also plans to put the X Gran Equator concept into production. Revealed earlier this year, the X Gran Equator is a rugged, off-roader concept designed to compete with vehicles like the Land Rover Defender, separating it from the pure luxury mission of the new GV90.
