Ford Ranger Super Duty Arrives Early in Australia, Set to Shake Up Market

The hardcore Ford Ranger Super Duty is set to hit Australian roads earlier than expected, with Ford Australia confirming an accelerated timeline for its most capable Ranger ever.

Originally slated for an early 2026 release, Ford Australia president and CEO Andrew Birkic confirmed the new schedule. “The Ford Ranger Super Duty is arriving ahead of schedule, with customer deliveries starting later this year,” he stated.

This new family of tougher pickup and cab/chassis variants is designed to fill a unique gap in the market, offering heavy-duty capabilities in a mid-size truck.

Class-Leading Power and Capability

The Ford Ranger Super Duty isn’t just a badge. It’s a significant engineering upgrade, borrowing its name from Ford’s larger F-Series trucks.

  • Engine: All models feature a 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel engine, producing 154kW and 600Nm of torque.
  • Drivetrain: A 10-speed automatic transmission is standard, along with locking front and rear differentials.
  • Towing: It boasts a class-leading 4500kg braked towing capacity, putting it in line with full-size US pickups.
  • Heavy-Duty Upgrades: The vehicle is built on a stronger chassis and features a larger fuel tank, wider tracks, more ground clearance, and robust eight-stud wheels/hubs.

Built to Fill a Market Gap

According to Mr. Birkic, the Ford Ranger Super Duty was born from customer feedback six years ago. Customers needed a mid-size truck that could handle costly and time-consuming modifications required for heavy work.

“Our heavy-duty customers needed a mid-size truck that could carry almost two tonnes of payload, tow up to 4.5 tonnes, and be incredibly capable off-road,” Birkic explained. “Nothing existed in the Australian market that could do all this, backed by a full factory warranty.”

With no direct rivals in the mid-size segment, the Ford Ranger Super Duty is set to be a game-changer. It offers buyers an alternative to expensive, factory-backed full-size US pickups.

The initial launch will focus on cab/chassis configurations, with pricing starting from $82,990 before on-road costs.
