Ford’s popular hands-free driving system, BlueCruise, is getting a significant boost with a new update: BlueCruise 1.4. This new version is designed to make long highway drives less fatiguing and more reliable in a wider range of conditions. The enhancements, which are a mix of hardware and software improvements, aim to stretch hands-off time, reduce interruptions, and provide a more natural, stable, and confident driving experience.

The BlueCruise 1.4 update brings several key enhancements that make the system more capable than ever.
- Improved Curve Handling: The system now automatically and smoothly adjusts the vehicle’s speed when navigating sharp curves, allowing the driver to stay in hands-free mode for a longer duration.
- Enhanced In-Lane Stability: Thanks to a new motion controller, the system reduces side-to-side movement within the lane, providing greater stability and a more centered feel.
- Better in Poor Visibility: BlueCruise 1.4 is now more reliable in challenging conditions like rain or direct sunlight, which previously could have caused the system to disengage.

Why Truck Owners Will Benefit the Most
Ford says that truck owners, in particular, will see the most significant benefits from this update. The improved lane-centering technology is specifically designed to reduce the side-to-side wiggle that can occur with the taller stance and heavier body of full-size pickups like the F-150 and its electric variant, the F-150 Lightning. The update also means fewer sudden system disengagements on curvy roads, making long highway stretches even more comfortable for truck drivers.
Availability and Future Plans
BlueCruise 1.4 is already shipping on select 2025 Ford and Lincoln models. It is also being rolled out via a software update to eligible 2022-2023 F-150 and 2022-2024 F-150 Lightning vehicles. Ford’s goal is to continue improving the hands-free highway driving experience and to make the system available on more vehicle lines in the future, including gas-powered, hybrid, and all-electric models.
