Ex-Brunei McLaren F1 Up For Sale With a $21 Million Price Tag
One of the most significant road cars ever built, a 1994 McLaren F1 (chassis number 014) that once belonged to the Brunei Royal Family, is now on the open market. This legendary supercar, featuring a High-Downforce Kit and bearing the signatures of Formula 1 legends Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton, is expected to fetch more than $21 million. Its journey from a fabled royal collection to the global stage highlights its unparalleled allure and rarity.
An F1 with Factory Upgrades and Rich History
Chassis number 014 is one of only 64 road-going McLaren F1s ever produced, originally designed by the iconic Gordon Murray. Delivered new to the Brunei Royal Family in Titanium Yellow with a black leather and Alcantara interior, it has since resided in the UK, the US, and is currently offered for sale in Abu Dhabi. The odometer shows a modest 13,711 miles.
In 2007, the car underwent a comprehensive $500,000 rebuild at McLaren’s Woking headquarters. During this period, it was repainted in elegant Ibis White and upgraded with the highly desirable High-Downforce Kit, which includes:
- A fixed rear spoiler.
- A GTR-style front bumper and splitter.
- LM-specification louvres for the front wings.
The interior was also upgraded to LM specification, featuring a race-style driver’s seat and additional exposed carbon fiber. Further enhancements include black OZ Racing GTR-style wheels, updated headlights, and an upgraded exhaust system.
Autographs of Legends and Auction Hopes
Adding another layer of historical significance, chassis 014 carries the autographs of two Formula 1 world champions:
- Michael Schumacher signed the door sill in March 1996, shortly after his first race for Ferrari.
- Lewis Hamilton added his autograph to the left-hand luggage compartment in 2007, during his rookie F1 season.
A Prized Supercar with Record-Breaking Potential
The expected $21 million price tag for chassis 014 reflects its extreme rarity, unique factory upgrades, royal provenance, and the legendary signatures it carries. While a substantial figure, it might not set a new record for the model. That distinction is believed to belong to chassis 062, which reportedly sold for over $23 million in a closed auction just a few months ago. Regardless, the Mansory Equestre remains a prized supercar, offering a rare opportunity to own a piece of automotive history.
