Tesla Scraps the Cheapest Cybertruck RWD

In a surprising move, Tesla has canceled the rear-wheel-drive (RWD) Cybertruck just six months after its launch. The model has been removed from the company’s online configurator, making the all-wheel-drive (AWD) version, starting at $82,235, the new entry-level option. This decision marks a significant shift in the Cybertruck lineup, which now has a much higher starting price.

Cybertruck RWD–Low Demand Likely to Blame

While Tesla hasn’t given an official reason for the change, it’s widely believed to be due to low demand. Despite a reported one million reservations, actual sales have fallen far below expectations, with only 15,000 units sold in the first half of 2025. Many buyers may have found that the RWD model lacked key features, making it a less attractive option for the price.

What Was Missing From the Cybertruck RWD

To achieve its lower price point, the rear-drive Cybertruck was stripped of several important features. It came without the front motor, active air suspension, and a tonneau cover. It also lacked power outlets in the bed, which are essential for many truck owners. These compromises made the AWD model seem like a much better value for just a bit more money.

The Current Cybertruck Lineup

With the RWD model gone, the Cybertruck lineup is now much simpler. The entry point is the dual-motor AWD version, which starts at $82,235. For those who want the top-of-the-line performance, the tri-motor Cyberbeast model remains available at $117,235. The new focus appears to be on selling the higher-end, more feature-rich models.
