The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 has been on a rampage across North American racetracks, and it just added another trophy to its case. In a quiet but significant run, racing legend Ron Fellows set a new Corvette ZR1 lap record at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park (CTMP), crushing his own previous best.
A New King of the North
Ron Fellows is no stranger to “Mosport.” He co-owns the track and previously held the production car record there with the Corvette Z06 (1:22.12). However, the new ZR1 is in a different league entirely.
Equipped with the ZTK Performance Package, Fellows clocked a blistering 1:18.22. This is nearly four seconds faster than the Z06, a massive gap in the world of racing. Fellows credited the car’s immense downforce (over 1,200 lbs at speed) for allowing him to trust the car in high-speed corners where lesser vehicles would lose grip.
