Chevrolet Bolt EV 2027 Returns Under $30,000, Packed with Features & NACS Charging
After a two-year hiatus, the Chevrolet Bolt EV is making a grand return to showrooms in early 2026 as a 2027 model year, boasting a starting sticker price of just $29,990 (including destination), with an even more affordable $28,995 model promised later. This “limited run” model comes significantly upgraded, featuring an estimated 255 miles of range, a NACS (North American Charging Standard) port for seamless Tesla Supercharger access, and an array of interior tech, including Google built-in with Angry Birds and Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) capability.
A Strong Comeback: More Range, Faster Charging, & Tesla Compatibility
The new Bolt EV aims to build on the previous model’s popularity while addressing past limitations.
- Affordable Entry: Starting under $30,000, the Bolt EV continues its legacy as one of the most accessible EVs on the market.
- Enhanced Range: A GM-estimated 255 miles of range provides ample confidence for daily commutes and longer trips.
- Faster Charging: Peak charging speed of 150 kW+ is more than 2.5 times faster than the previous Bolt EV, allowing a 10% to 80% charge in just 26 minutes with public DC fast charging.
- NACS Port: The 2027 Bolt EV is the first Chevrolet to feature a native NACS charging port, granting owners access to the extensive Tesla Supercharger network.
Feature-Rich Interior & Advanced Technology
Chevrolet has loaded the new Bolt EV with a host of upgrades, making it a compelling package for its price.
- Larger Infotainment & Driver Screens: A larger 11.3-inch diagonal infotainment screen and an 11-inch diagonal driver information screen provide a modern digital experience.
- Google Built-in: Integration of Google Maps, Google Assistant, and the Google Play Store directly into the car. This enables smart route planning with battery range estimations, real-time charging station status, and automatic battery preconditioning for optimal charging.
- Entertainment on the Go: When charging, users can access entertainment apps like Angry Birds, HBO Max, Tubi, and Prime Video.
- Super Cruise: Available Super Cruise driver assistance technology offers hands-free driving on compatible roads (late availability).
- Safety Features: More than 20 standard safety and driver assistance features, including Intersection Collision Mitigation, Rear Automatic Braking, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert with Braking.
- Interior Refinements: A refined new interior with an open console, all-new passenger dash storage, and multiple USB-C ports with available wireless phone charging.
Next-Gen Powertrain and V2H Capability
Underneath its familiar hatchback look, the new Bolt EV leverages advanced GM EV technology.
- X76 Drive Unit: The Bolt utilizes the new X76 electric front-wheel-drive unit, shared with other GM products like the Cadillac Lyriq. This permanent-magnet motor uses minimal rare-earth materials, segmented magnets to reduce heat, and silicon carbide inverter materials for improved efficiency.
- Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) Capability: The Bolt now supports V2H bidirectional charging, allowing the car to power a home during outages. However, this requires pairing with a GM Energy Home System, which can be an additional investment of around $7,300 to $12,700 (excluding installation and other parts).
“Limited Run” for the Highly Anticipated Bolt EV
Despite the wealth of upgrades and attractive pricing, Chevrolet has stated the 2027 Bolt EV will be a “limited run model.” Given the previous model’s sales peak of 62,045 units in its last year (2023), and the significant improvements, demand is expected to be high. Buyers interested in this feature-packed, affordable EV should look to secure one as soon as they hit dealerships in the first quarter of 2026.
