The BYD Racco K-EV is designed as a city-focused kei car, blending BYD’s advanced EV technology with Japan’s compact car culture. With a small footprint, efficient packaging, and an all-electric powertrain, it is aimed squarely at urban buyers looking for an eco-friendly alternative without compromising practicality.

The BYD Sealion 6 DM-i is the company’s first plug-in hybrid for Japan. It follows BYD’s “EV + PHEV” dual strategy, allowing buyers to enjoy electric-only driving for city commutes while having the convenience of petrol backup for longer distances. This balance could help expand hybrid adoption in regions where charging infrastructure is still developing.

BYD’s Wider Showcase

At the BYD pavilion, themed “One BYD”, the brand presented not only passenger cars but also commercial vehicles. A highlight was the T35 electric kei truck, powered by the Blade Battery, making its global debut. Alongside were models like the J6 Living Car Concept, and electric buses such as the J7 and K8, reinforcing BYD’s broad electrification approach.

Expanding Footprint in Japan

Since 2022, BYD has expanded rapidly in Japan, setting up 66 outlets and establishing itself with models like the Atto 3 and Dolphin. Now, with the launch of the Racco K-EV and Sealion 6 DM-i, the company plans to introduce eight electrified models by 2027, targeting both private buyers and fleet operators.

BYD’s India Outlook

In India, BYD already offers the Atto 3, Sealion 7, Seal, and eMax 7. The upcoming BYD Atto 2 is expected to be the company’s most affordable EV in the Indian market, making BYD a stronger competitor in the growing electric mobility space.
