BENTLEY’S NEW $486K SUPERCAR IS… SLOWER THAN THE HYBRID? HERE’S WHY

Bentley has just announced its most extreme new car, the Bentley Continental GT Supersports. But here’s the strange part: it’s less powerful and slower than the “normal” GT Speed model. And the price? It starts at over $486,000.
This sounds crazy, but here’s our simple analysis: this is the most exciting and brilliant car Bentley has made in 20 years. They didn’t build it to win a numbers game; they built it for “purists.”
A “PURIST” BENTLEY: WHAT THEY REMOVED

The new Supersports is defined by what it removes.
First, they threw out the heavy plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system. Instead, it has only a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine.
Second, they did something even crazier. This is the first Continental GT since 2003 to be Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) only. They removed the heavy All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system. This is a huge deal for drivers who want a more challenging and pure driving feel.
THE 1000-POUND (450+ KG) WEIGHT LOSS

By removing the hybrid batteries, electric motor, and AWD, the new Supersports has shed a massive 1,000 pounds (over 450 kg). Its new weight is under 4,400 pounds (2,000 kg).
To lose even more weight, Bentley used:
- A carbon-fiber roof
- Carbon-silicon-carbide brakes (which are very light and powerful)
- A lightweight titanium exhaust
- Lighter seats (they are still heated and power-adjustable)
- Less sound-deadening material (so you can hear the V8)

SLOWER ON PAPER, BETTER ON THE ROAD (THE ANALYST VIEW)
This car is not for winning a drag race. The GT Speed is for that. This car is for feeling the drive. A lighter car with RWD and a pure V8 is the perfect recipe for a true “driver’s car.”
This is Bentley’s “Porsche 911 GT3” moment—a car that’s less about raw speed and more about handling, sound, and excitement.
Just look at how the “purist” Supersports compares to the “numbers-king” GT Speed.
| Feature | New Supersports (The Purist) | GT Speed (The Power King) |
| Engine | 4.0L V8 (No Hybrid) | V8 + Plug-in Hybrid |
| Power | 657 HP | 771 HP |
| Drive | Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) | All-Wheel Drive (AWD) |
| Weight | Under 4,400 lbs | Over 5,400 lbs |
| 0-60 mph (Est.) | 3.3 seconds | 2.7 seconds |
| Top Speed (Est.) | 192 mph (309 km/h) | 208 mph (335 km/h) |
| The Point? | Driving Feel | Straight-Line Speed |
PRICE AND HOW TO GET ONE
This level of specialness is not cheap. The Bentley Continental GT Supersports will start at over $486,000.
It’s also very rare. Bentley will only build 500 of them for the entire world. Production starts late next year, with the first cars being delivered in early 2027.

CONCLUSION
This is the most interesting Continental GT ever made. It’s a bold move for Bentley to sell a car that is “slower on paper” for more money. It proves they are listening to the small, rich group of “purists” who believe that lighter is better, RWD is more fun, and a pure V8 sound is king.
