August brought a wave of fantastic news for India’s two-wheeler industry, as sales charts lit up with impressive numbers. It seems the festive spirit has arrived a little early, with showrooms across the country seeing a major uptick in foot traffic. A combination of factors, including renewed confidence among buyers in rural areas and the excitement generated by a slate of new model launches, created the perfect recipe for a successful month. Nearly every major brand had a reason to celebrate.

Leading the pack, as it has for so many years, was Hero MotoCorp. The industry giant firmly held onto its crown, dispatching an incredible 5,19,139 units in August. This wasn’t just a small step forward; it was a massive leap of nearly 26% compared to the previous month of July. More importantly, it also marked a healthy 5.46% growth over the same period last year, proving that Hero’s strong connection with the Indian customer remains unshaken.

Following closely behind was Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI), which had a more complex story to tell. The company posted sales of 4,81,021 units. On the bright side, this was a steady 3% increase over its July numbers. However, when compared to August of 2024, there was a slight dip of 2.17%. While still a dominant force, Honda is navigating a highly competitive market where every sale counts.

One of the brightest stars of the month was undoubtedly TVS Motor Company. The Chennai-based manufacturer was in top form, achieving a remarkable sales figure of 3,68,862 units. This represented a massive 27.60% jump in growth compared to last year, making it one of the strongest performances in the industry. The incredible demand for popular models like the sporty Raider, the reliable Jupiter scooter, and the ever-popular Apache series has been key to this outstanding success.

Bajaj Auto also experienced a month of highs and lows. The company did exceptionally well on a month-on-month basis, with sales climbing by over 32% to reach 1,84,109 units. However, the year-on-year comparison showed an 11.75% decline. This indicates that while Bajaj’s immediate sales momentum is strong, it is still working to reclaim the higher volumes it achieved in the previous year.

The story of the month, however, belongs to Royal Enfield. Continuing its spectacular run, the brand posted absolutely stunning results. With 1,02,876 motorcycles sold, Royal Enfield recorded a jaw-dropping 56.77% year-on-year growth. This phenomenal performance, fueled by the immense popularity of the Classic, Hunter, and its newer models, shows that the brand’s legacy and modern appeal are a winning combination.

This shows a stable and loyal customer base for Suzuki’s well-regarded scooters and motorcycles.
