Audi GT50 Concept Five-Cylinder Tribute: A Retro Masterpiece
Audi is famous for its unique five-cylinder engines, a legacy that began back in 1976 with the Audi 100. To celebrate 50 years of this iconic powertrain, a team of 14 Audi apprentices has created something special. The Audi GT50 concept five-cylinder tribute is a stunning one-off vehicle that blends modern performance with historic racing style.

A Nod to American Motorsport History
The design of the GT50 is not just random; it is a direct homage to Audi’s success in American racing. The styling draws inspiration from the legendary Audi 90 quattro IMSA GTO and the 200 quattro Trans-Am. These cars helped establish the brand’s reputation after the cancellation of Group B rallying.
The apprentices gave the concept a futuristic yet retro look. Instead of standard headlights, the car features simple X-shaped LEDs. The bodywork is smooth and aggressive, featuring a massive integrated ducktail spoiler and spoke-less wheels. Inside, you can see safety netting and a roll cage, proving this car is ready for the track.

Under the Hood: RS 3 Power
While the body looks like a race car from the future, the bones of the Audi GT50 concept five-cylinder tribute are based on the current RS 3.
| Feature | Specification |
| Engine | Five-Cylinder Turbo |
| Horsepower | 394 hp |
| Drivetrain | All-Wheel Drive (Quattro) |
| Inspiration | Audi 90 quattro IMSA GTO |
| Creators | 14 Audi Apprentices |
With 394 horsepower going to all four wheels, this concept keeps the spirit of the original five-cylinder engine alive.
Will It Be Produced?
Unfortunately, you will not be able to buy the GT50. Pedestrian safety laws and the high cost of custom bodywork make production impossible. However, there is good news for fans of the five-cylinder engine.
Reports suggest that a new, high-performance RS 3 special edition is coming next year. This track-biased model is expected to have more power than the Mercedes-AMG A45 and could target the Nürburgring lap record. While the Audi GT50 concept five-cylinder tribute will remain a one-off, it serves as a perfect celebration of 50 years of engineering excellence.
