Piaggio Absorbs GST Hike: Aprilia RS457 & Tuono 457 Prices Remain Attractive!
Piaggio India has made a significant move to protect its customers from the recent GST (Goods and Services Tax) increase on larger two-wheelers. The company has announced updated pricing for its popular Aprilia 457 range, ensuring that the Aprilia RS457 and Tuono 457 remain accessible despite the regulatory changes. These revised prices are effective immediately across India, demonstrating Piaggio’s commitment to maintaining customer affordability.
Tuono 457 Price Unchanged, RS457 Gets Bonus Benefits
For the Aprilia Tuono 457, Piaggio has chosen to absorb the entire GST impact. This means its ex-showroom price in Maharashtra remains unchanged at an attractive ₹3,95,000. The Aprilia RS457 receives even more benefits, totaling over ₹35,000. Piaggio is directly absorbing ₹15,000 of the GST increase and, for a limited time, is offering a complimentary quick shifter valued at ₹20,500 with every RS457. This brings the RS457’s price to ₹4,35,000 (ex-showroom, Maharashtra), inclusive of this valuable accessory.
Navigating the New GST Structure
These pricing decisions come after the GST Council’s recent revision, which saw tax rates on motorcycles above 350cc jump from 28% to a flat 40%. In contrast, smaller-capacity motorcycles benefited from a reduction to 18% from the previous 28%. While these changes aim to make entry-level bikes more affordable, they put considerable cost pressure on mid- and large-capacity segments. Many manufacturers, including Piaggio, are responding by absorbing some or all of this tax impact to maintain market demand.
Reinforcing Aprilia’s Appeal in India
By strategically cushioning customers from higher ownership costs, Piaggio India aims to strengthen Aprilia’s position in India’s rapidly expanding mid-capacity performance motorcycle segment. The company emphasizes that riders can now purchase their Aprilia 457 models “without any GST increase impact,” highlighting its dedication to delivering value even amidst regulatory challenges. This move is expected to keep the Aprilia 457 twins highly competitive and appealing to performance enthusiasts.
