Eagle Unveils Lightweight GTR: The Most Extreme Jaguar E-Type Ever Built Sheds 30% of Weight for 430 HP-Per-Ton

Eagle’s one-off Lightweight GTR has just broken cover, instantly redefining what a reimagined Jaguar E-Type can be. Weighing just 975 kilograms (2,150 lbs) with fluids, the Lightweight GTR sheds over 30% of the original E-Type’s weight, achieving a stunning power-to-weight ratio of more than 430 horsepower per ton. This bespoke, one-off commission blends the E-Type’s iconic racing spirit with cutting-edge, exotic materials like titanium, magnesium, and carbon fiber, resulting in a modern masterpiece of British engineering that focuses obsessively on reduced weight and pure performance.

Obsessive Lightweight Engineering at Its Finest

The core of the Lightweight GTR project was an uncompromising focus on shedding every possible gram to enhance the driving experience. (Eagle Unveils Lightweight GTR)

  • Featherweight Target: The GTR weighs just 975 kilograms wet.
  • Exotic Materials: Every component has been re-engineered using materials rarely seen in road cars: titanium wheel hubs, carbon-ceramic brakes, a bespoke magnesium gearbox casing, and an Inconel and titanium exhaust system.
  • Engine: Under the handcrafted aluminum bodywork sits a rebuilt 4.7-liter wide-angle inline-six engine (developed from the classic Jaguar XK-series straight-six). It features titanium connecting rods and breathes through triple Weber carburetors.
  • Power-to-Weight: The engine delivers over 430 horsepower per ton. The total output of the wide-angle engine is approximately 415 hp.
  • Handling: The GTR gains precision and balance from a fully adjustable Öhlins damper suspension and revised geometry.

Grand Touring Comfort Meets Race-Car Precision

The project began as a client commission for a grand-touring E-Type that could be driven daily, requiring a balance of luxury and performance purity.

  • Interior Fusion: The cabin successfully fuses luxury craftsmanship with race-car precision, featuring Black Alcantara trim, lightweight aluminum seats, and four-point harnesses.
  • Luxurious Detailing: Unique details include platinum-inlaid switchgear and a magnetic phone dock.
  • Touring Capability: Air-conditioning, heated glass, and sound insulation ensure the car remains suited to crossing continents, fulfilling the client’s brief for a road-legal GT.
  • Design Philosophy: Paul Brace, Eagle’s design director, described the Lightweight GTR as “the pinnacle of what we’ve learned over three decades of building E-Types, a car where every gram and every detail serve the experience of driving”.

Final Thoughts: A Defiant Statement

The Eagle Lightweight GTR is more than just a restomod; it is a profound and defiant statement against an era dominated by weight, complexity, and hybrid systems. It successfully updates the E-Type’s 1960s racing legacy without diluting its emotional connection, offering instant throttle response and a magnificent soundtrack. For collectors and enthusiasts, this one-off creation represents the ultimate expression of the Jaguar E-Type’s legacy, proving that true driver engagement and beauty are timeless.
