Kia India has officially launched the Kia Carens CNG, but not in the way many expected. Instead of a factory-fitted option, the company is offering a dealer-level CNG kit priced at ₹77,900. This move is expected to attract fleet operators and taxi owners looking for affordable running costs in a spacious three-row MPV.

Dealer-Level CNG Kit with Warranty

The new Kia Carens CNG kit comes from Lovato, a well-known aftermarket CNG solutions provider, and is government approved for safety. Unlike factory-fitted setups, this kit will be installed at Kia’s authorized dealerships.

For peace of mind, Lovato is also offering a 3-year / 1,00,000 km warranty on the kit. However, as with most CNG MPVs, the installation reduces boot space, especially when all three rows of seats are in use.

Pricing and Availability

The Kia Carens CNG is available only on the Premium (O) trim, paired with the 1.5-litre NA petrol engine and a manual gearbox.

  • Price of Carens Petrol + CNG kit: ₹11.77 lakh (Ex-showroom)
  • Carens Diesel Price: ₹12.77 lakh (Ex-showroom)

This means opting for the petrol variant with the dealer-level CNG kit provides a cost advantage of about ₹1 lakh compared to the diesel alternative.

Who Is It For?

While private buyers may find it appealing, the Kia Carens CNG is primarily targeted at fleet operators and taxi applications. With lower running costs and fewer city restrictions thanks to its CNG credentials, it could become a popular choice in metros like Delhi-NCR.

Self-employed individuals who want to use the Carens as a commercial taxi may also find this option cost-effective.

Performance and Efficiency

Kia has not revealed the official performance or mileage figures for the Carens CNG. However, given Lovato’s track record and the efficiency of CNG kits, one can expect fuel economy significantly higher than the petrol-only version.

Despite some compromise on luggage space, the Carens CNG maintains its appeal as a spacious seven-seater that balances affordability, practicality, and running costs.

Conclusion

With the launch of the Kia Carens CNG, Kia has stepped into the alternative fuel segment, albeit with a dealer-level solution. At ₹77,900 for the kit, backed by warranty and government approval, the Carens CNG looks like a smart move for fleet operators and budget-conscious buyers.

The real test will be how it performs on the road and whether it can match the popularity of rivals like the Maruti Ertiga CNG and XL6 CNG.
