Polestar is leveraging Scandinavian star power to promote its new flagship electric grand tourer. The Swedish EV maker has released a captivating short film featuring actor Alexander Skarsgård and the Polestar 5, a sleek four-door GT that evolved from the impressive 2020 Precept concept. Polestar 5: Power, Performance, and Advanced Architecture

The Polestar 5 is built on the brand’s bespoke bonded-aluminum platform, known as Polestar Performance Architecture (PPA). This advanced structure is a cornerstone of its exceptional capabilities:

  • Supercar-Level Stiffness: The PPA provides rigidity comparable to supercars, enhancing handling and driving dynamics.
  • Reduced Weight: Compared to traditional steel structures, the bonded-aluminum platform significantly reduces the vehicle’s overall weight, further contributing to its performance.
  • Blistering Acceleration: A dual-motor setup churns out a massive 871 hp (650 kW) and 749 lb-ft (1,015 Nm) of torque. This immense power propels the Polestar 5 from 0 to 62 mph (0-100 km/h) in a mere 3.2 seconds.
  • Advanced Suspension: The front suspension utilizes a double-wishbone configuration paired with MagneRide adaptive dampers, promising a sophisticated and responsive ride.
  • 800-Volt Electrical System: Power flows through an efficient 800-volt electrical system, enabling faster charging times and greater overall efficiency.

Sustainability and Scandinavian Design in Focus

The minimalist film, produced in-house, provides a cinematic walkaround of the Polestar 5 as Alexander Skarsgård (known for his roles in Succession and The Northman) explores its design and technology. The film concludes with Skarsgård’s poignant line: “Fantastic. Tomorrow’s not dead yet,” reinforcing the brand’s forward-looking ethos.

Sustainability remains a major talking point and a core tenet for Polestar:

  • Aluminum Body: The Polestar 5’s body is made from 83% aluminum sourced exclusively from smelters that use renewable energy. The remaining 13% of the metal is recycled, showcasing a circular economy approach.
  • Eco-Friendly Interior: The interior features innovative materials such as natural-fiber composites and Polestar’s own lightweight weave material. The company states that these choices reduce the reliance on fossil-based plastics by half compared to traditional automotive interiors.

Reinforcing Polestar’s Identity

Beyond merely marketing a product, the film effectively reinforces Polestar’s distinct brand identity. It emphasizes a harmonious blend of cutting-edge design, exhilarating performance, and a steadfast commitment to environmental progress. The Polestar 5 stands as the company’s most advanced model yet, embodying a vision for a sustainable and high-performance electric future.
