Indian Sedan Sales See 15% YoY Growth in August 2025, Maruti Dzire Dominates
New Delhi, India – The Indian sedan segment reported robust 15.01% year-on-year (YoY) growth in August 2025, with total sales reaching 28,451 units compared to 24,738 units in August 2024. However, on a month-on-month (MoM) basis, sales saw a 14.51% decline from 33,281 units sold in July 2025. This growth was largely driven by strong demand for entry-level models, despite a sequential dip in overall sales attributed to reduced volumes from key players.
Maruti Dzire Maintains Lead, Hyundai Aura Climbs
Maruti Dzire continued its market dominance, selling an impressive 16,509 units in August 2025. This marks a massive 55.35% YoY growth over last year’s 10,627 units. Despite its strong annual performance, the Dzire experienced a 20.99% MoM decline from July’s 20,895 units. Following in a solid second place was the Hyundai Aura, with 5,336 units sold, recording a healthy 23.98% YoY growth and a strong 15.10% MoM rise.
Mid-Segment Sedans Face Headwinds, Premium Models Struggle

GST 2.0 Impact: Boost for Entry-Level Cars, Moderate for Sedans
The recent GST 2.0 reforms, which brought a sharp tax reduction on select car segments, are expected to inject fresh demand into the passenger vehicle market. However, while hatchbacks and entry-level SUVs are likely to see the biggest gains, the impact on sedans may be more moderate. Indian buyers have increasingly gravitated towards SUVs, making it challenging for sedans to regain their previous market share, even with lower effective pricing.
