Genesis GV60 Recall: Windshield Molding Defect Affects Nearly All EVs Sold Since 2023

Hyundai Motor America has announced a major recall for the Genesis GV60 electric SUV, affecting nearly every unit sold in the U.S. since its 2023 launch. A total of 7,855 vehicles from the 2023 through 2025 model years are impacted. The issue? The stainless-steel molding at the top of the windshield can detach, posing a significant road hazard to other drivers, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). This news follows a recent recall of over half a million Hyundai Palisade SUVs, putting extra pressure on the Korean automaker.

Understanding the GV60 Windshield Defect

Unlike typical EV recalls for electrical problems, this defect is simpler but still dangerous. NHTSA filings reveal that the supplier, Keumgang Chemical, used poor laminating temperature control and insufficient caulking during production. This resulted in weak adhesion of the windshield molding. Owners might notice early warning signs like wind noise, whistling, or knocking sounds near the windshield before the molding completely detaches. While the windshield itself remains secure, a loose piece of stainless steel flying off at highway speeds could cause serious accidents.

Scope of the Recall: Almost Every GV60 in the U.S.

This recall is extensive, impacting almost every Genesis GV60 sold in the U.S. since its introduction.

  • 2023: 3,400 units sold
  • 2024: 2,866 units sold
  • 2025 (first eight months): 1,441 units sold

Although Hyundai has tracked 112 cases of molding detachment, they estimate that only about 1% of the affected vehicles actually have the defect. Crucially, no crashes or injuries have been linked to this issue so far. However, with Genesis showing 8% year-over-year growth in the luxury segment, these consecutive recalls create unwelcome challenges for the brand’s reputation.

What GV60 Owners Need to Do

Genesis dealers will replace the faulty windshield molding completely free of charge. Owners who have already paid for this repair will be reimbursed. Notification letters will be mailed starting November 17, 2025. Owners can also check if their specific vehicle is part of the recall by entering their VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) on NHTSA.gov starting September 20. Hyundai is strongly advising GV60 drivers not to delay these repairs, as even small detached pieces can lead to major safety risks on the road.
