Renault & Nissan Sales Breakup Aug 2025: Kiger Soars, Magnite Falls

The August 2025 sales data for Renault and Nissan revealed two very different narratives. While Renault managed to maintain its overall market share, Nissan faced a significant setback. Overall, Renault and Nissan stood at Nos 10 and 12 on the best-selling OEM sales list for the month, with the market showing mixed signals ahead of the GST 2.0 implementation.

Renault’s Surge: Kiger’s Facelift Success

Renault reported total sales of 3,015 units in August, nearly matching last year’s figures and showing a strong 17% month-on-month (MoM) improvement. This positive momentum was driven primarily by the Triber and the Kiger.

  • Triber: Sales grew by 24% YoY to 1,870 units, though it saw a slight MoM dip. The Triber remains the best performer in Renault’s portfolio.
  • Kiger: Sales dramatically improved to 910 units, marking a massive 182% MoM increase. This jump is attributed to the recent Kiger facelift, which brought significant improvements in design and equipment, making it a stronger competitor in the sub-4m SUV segment.

The Kwid, however, saw a sharp decline, with sales dropping 63% YoY to just 235 units. All three Renault models are in the sub-4m segment, which will see maximum GST tax cuts, potentially boosting their sales further.

Nissan’s Steep Decline

Nissan Motor India, which relies solely on the Magnite for sales, faced a sharp downturn in August. Sales of the GNCAP 5-star rated SUV fell to 1,384 units, a 39% year-over-year (YoY) de-growth. MoM sales were also negative, declining by 3%. This sustained drop suggests the Magnite is struggling against fierce competition and changing buyer preferences in the segment.

Nissan’s market share fell to 0.4% from 0.6% YoY. To counter this, Nissan has already announced that it will pass on the full GST benefits of up to Rs 1 lakh on top-spec Magnite variants.

Here is a summary of the sales performance:

Looking Ahead: New Products and Lower Prices

Both Renault and Nissan are strategically planning for the future. Nissan is set to introduce a new C-segment SUV based on the Renault Duster platform in early 2026. This upcoming model will share its engine and features with the Duster, allowing Nissan to keep costs competitive. Renault is also leveraging the GST tax cuts, which it is passing on fully to customers, with benefits up to Rs 96,395 on its models.
