Bajaj Absorbs GST Hike on Pulsar NS400Z and Dominar 400

Bajaj Auto has made a big statement, confirming that it will not increase the prices of its popular Pulsar NS400Z and Dominar 400 models despite a recent GST (Goods and Services Tax) hike. The company has decided to absorb the entire cost, which would have added around Rs 13,000 to the price of the Pulsar. This bold move is a major win for motorcycle enthusiasts, who can now continue to purchase these bikes at their original, affordable prices.

No Price Hike for Top Bajaj Models

The Pulsar NS400Z will remain at its starting price of Rs 1.93 lakh, and the Dominar 400 will continue to be available at Rs 2.39 lakh (all ex-showroom). By keeping prices unchanged, Bajaj is ensuring that its “affordable pricing” reputation is maintained, and customers’ festive season buying plans are not disrupted. This decision is expected to help boost sales and strengthen the market position of these two popular bikes.

A Smart Move in a Competitive Market

Bajaj’s decision to absorb the GST hike is not limited to just its own brands. The company has also chosen to absorb the increased costs for its India-made 400cc Triumph and KTM 390 bikes. This shows a strategic commitment to the Indian market, especially in the 350cc-450cc segment, where the total market share of these brands works out to a significant 8%. Other brands like Aprilia and BSA have also followed a similar strategy, absorbing the GST hike to protect customers.

A Disappointing GST Hike

The article also highlights a point of contention with the GST 2.0 reforms. While many cars saw a price reduction, motorcycles above 350cc were hit with a higher 40% GST, a move that has left thousands disappointed. The article notes that bikes in this segment only account for 1-2% of total motorcycle sales, raising questions about the logic behind the price hike.
