Kia’s August Sales: A Mixed Bag as Sonet Leads and Seltos Declines

Kia India, the sixth-largest automaker in the country, recorded a total of 19,608 units in retail sales for August 2025. While this is a respectable number, Kia Sales saw a 13% decline in sales compared to the same month last year and an 11% drop from July. The results show a mixed performance across the brand’s portfolio, with some models doing well and others struggling, a trend that many automakers faced as buyers waited for the new GST 2.0 rates.

Sonet and Carens Lead the Way

The Kia Sonet was the best-selling model for the Kia Sales in Aug 2025, with 7,741 units sold in August. However, this number still represents a 23% decline compared to last year’s sales. The Kia Carens, on the other hand, performed well, with a 16% YoY increase in sales to 6,822 units. The growth of the Carens can be attributed to the recent launch of the Carens Clavis EV, a seven-seater electric vehicle that has garnered a lot of attention.

Challenges for Seltos and New Models

The Kia Seltos, once a star for the brand, has seen a significant decline in popularity. Sales fell by 28% YoY and 22% MoM to just 4,687 units in August. This drop can be attributed to increased competition and the arrival of its new, smaller sibling, the Syros, which sold only 304 units last month. The premium Carnival also saw a dip in sales, selling just 50 units.

Here is a summary of Kia Sales performance for August 2025:
