Maruti Ertiga Leads 7-Seater Sales in August
The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga remains the undisputed leader in India’s 7-seater market. Despite the market becoming more competitive, the Ertiga held the top spot with 18,445 units sold in August 2025. This shows remarkable consistency, with sales only seeing a minor 1 percent decline compared to the same month last year.
Mixed Results for Mahindra and Toyota
The sales chart had some surprising results for major players. The Mahindra Scorpio saw a sharp 29 percent year-on-year decline, with sales dropping to 9,840 units. In contrast, Toyota’s popular Innova showed resilience, with only a modest 4 percent decline to 9,304 units, proving its strong reputation with buyers.
Surging Sales in the Middle of the Pack
The middle of the sales chart was filled with action. The Mahindra Bolero, a long-standing favorite, saw sales jump by a significant 25 percent to 8,109 units. Similarly, the Kia Carens experienced a strong 16 percent increase, with 6,822 units sold. This highlights the diverse tastes of Indian consumers, from rugged utility to feature-packed family cars.
The Biggest Shocker: Mahindra XUV700’s Decline
The most surprising sales result came from the Mahindra XUV700, which saw a steep 45 percent drop in sales, falling to 4,956 units. However, the company expects sales to rebound in the coming months with the start of the festive season. Other models like the Maruti Suzuki XL6, Toyota Fortuner, and Renault Triber all showed positive growth.
What the Numbers Tell Us
The sales report for August shows that the 7-seater market is not shrinking, but rather evolving into different segments. While the Tata Safari faced a sales drop of 24 percent, other models continue to find their niche. The success of cars like the Bolero, Fortuner, and Triber proves that consumers are looking for a variety of options, from budget-friendly practicality to premium comfort.
