Renault ‘Exploring’ Potential RenaultSport Return

Renault’s high-performance arm, RenaultSport, could be making a comeback! After being officially absorbed into the Alpine brand in 2023, executives have confirmed at the 2025 Munich motor show that they are considering proposals for new sporty models. According to Fabrice Cambolive, Renault’s CEO, the company is “exploring some ideas” for cars that would specifically carry the Renault badge, possibly sitting either below or alongside the more premium Alpine brand.

A Shift in Strategy

This news marks a potential shift from the company’s previous strategy, which aimed to make Alpine the sole performance brand within the Renault Group. However, Cambolive confirmed that this rigid business model is no longer in place, allowing the group to consider new performance cars for the Renault brand. This is a clear indication of Renault’s desire to re-engage with the hot hatch market it once dominated.

Playing with High-Performance Ideas

Renault has already been hinting at a return to form with some exciting recent projects. The company created the wild 5 Turbo 3E electric concept, a gymkhana drift car that turned into a limited-run electric supercar. Additionally, Cambolive has confirmed that the Megane E-Tech is set to receive a “hot hatch”-like facelift very soon, with a bigger battery and more power to match a visual refresh. These projects show that the company has not forgotten its sporty roots.

Here is a look at some of the key high-performance models and concepts mentioned:
