Maruti’s Hybrid Push
Maruti Suzuki is leading the charge with four new hybrid models planned. The new Maruti Victoris SUV will feature a 1.5L strong hybrid engine, promising a mileage of 28.65 kmpl, which would make it one of India’s most fuel-efficient cars. Other models, including the Fronx Hybrid and the new-gen Baleno, will use a new 1.2L Z-Series petrol engine paired with an in-house developed strong hybrid system.
Mahindra and Honda Join In
Mahindra is set to launch its first-ever hybrid, the XUV 3XO Hybrid, in 2026. This SUV will have a 1.2L turbo petrol engine and is expected to have a “Hybrid” badge. Not to be left behind, Honda is also planning to introduce a hybrid version of its Elevate SUV to compete with rivals like the Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder. The Elevate Hybrid will likely use the City e:HEV’s 1.5L petrol engine.
The Return of the Renault Duster
The legendary Renault Duster is making a comeback with a hybrid version in early 2026, about six months after the regular petrol model arrives. This new model will have an all-new design and a more premium interior. Its global version already has a 140 bhp, 1.6L petrol-hybrid powertrain. Meanwhile, Nissan will also launch its own SUV based on the new Duster, featuring a different design but using the same engines.
