VW Unveils New ID. Cross Electric SUV Concept

Volkswagen has revealed its latest concept car, the ID. Cross, at the 2025 Munich motor show. This new electric crossover is a preview of a production model that will sit alongside the combustion-powered T-Cross. This is a predictable and smart move by VW, as small SUVs are extremely popular with buyers. The production model is set to launch in mid-2026 as part of a push to launch a full range of smaller electric cars.

A New Design Language

The ID. Cross Concept is the latest example of VW’s new “Pure Positive” design language. This new style aims to make future VWs “clear, authentic, timeless, and likeable.” The concept car features a distinctive look with chunky, sand-colored wheel elements and roof rails. It has some clever design details, like a rear corner window that gives it a unique style while still staying true to the brand’s history, with design cues from the iconic Golf and the classic VW Bus.

Inside the Concept

The interior of the concept is clean and modern, with a light fabric upholstery made from a special bouclé yarn. While it’s a concept, VW has been very open about its practicality. The car features a 450-liter boot and a 25-liter frunk, making it very useful for daily life and road trips. It also has a welcome number of physical controls for the climate and window switches, which will be a relief for many drivers.

Performance and Specs

The ID. Cross is built on the MEB+ platform, which is designed for smaller front-wheel-drive EVs. It’s powered by a single electric motor that produces 208 bhp, giving it a top speed of 108 mph. The car is expected to have a 260-mile range (420 km WLTP). The production version will also benefit from new software, which will bring a noticeable functional enhancement to the car’s tech and features.

A Look at the Competition

The ID. Cross is not alone in the small electric SUV market. It will be a sibling model to the Skoda Epiq and Cupra Raval, both of which were also shown at the Munich show. VW has been very clear that it wants to launch a full range of smaller EVs, including the ID. Polo and ID. Polo GTI. This shows that the company is serious about competing in the growing affordable EV segment and making electric cars accessible to a wider audience.
